Household fly

The house fly is often seen in our homes. Its presence is not directly related to an existing problem. It enters buildings in search of optimum conditions.

Appearance

Measures 5 to 8 mm long
The thorax is gray with four longitudinal black lines on the back
The body is covered with bristles
Females are slightly larger than males
Maggots are pale white with a length of 3 to 9 mm

Behaviour

Each female can lay up to 500 and even up to 1,000 eggs
Lays 5 times with 100 eggs per spawning
Can transmit intestinal worms and represents potential vectors of diseases

Life cycle

Larvae in food deficiency will give flies of smaller size
The complete cycle is between 9 and 30 days depending on the conditions and temperatures

Diet

Absorbs only liquid food
Larvae feed on organic matter (Organic matter in advanced decomposition or excrement)
Drops off saliva on liquid food before ingestion
